Poicommunity has just put up a whole collection of poi tutorials so we can all get into the swing of things. And someone’s going to kill me soon for the bad puns I’ve been making.
Here’re some very basic moves that anyone just starting out would appreciate.

Name me a juggler who doesn’t like throwing things. Here’s an instructable on how to make your own ‘LED Throwies’. These are clusters of LED bulbs with magnets attached to them so you can fling them onto magnetic surfaces – LARGE magnetic surfaces – to brighten them up.
With some weight, these might actually make very interesting juggling props. The creators call themselves the Graffitti Research Lab and you can watch a video of the throwies in action here.
Here’s a good guide on how to produce a good glowstick video which is applicable for all sorts of glow props and possibly fire ones too. While night performances are great live, it’s hard to decide on the optimal lighting that would translate well on film. This FAQ explains a little about that and goes through some simple video editing too for total newbies.
The Juggling Store has a new DVD available. The final installment of its tutorial DVDs provides a good overview on the different sorts of juggling arts including cigar boxes and plate-spinning in addition to plain vanilla 3, 4 and 5 ball juggling.
The coolest thing about this though is that the instructor’s not some guy in the costume and from the looks of the trailer, the DVD features some pretty gritty juggling locales.
With Christmas just round the corner, this would make a great stocking stuffer.
