Juggling + Parkour = Awesome!

April 15th, 2010 | Posted by Nathan

This video has been getting some attention for a few months now, but it NEEDS a mention here on Street Juggling.  I guess it is inevitable that someone would eventually make a parkour/juggling video, and perhaps it already has been done, but even it is has, the sheer talent and creativity displayed in this video is breath taking.  As if finding ways to juggle balls and cigar boxes while jumping around like a maniac wasn’t enough, this guy even adds card throwing, skateboarding, martial arts, and various other manipulations into the mix.  This is seriously one of the best compiled displays of overall physical talent I have ever seen captured on video.  Also interesting to note, the guy in the video isn’t even a performer, rather he’s a professional video game animator.  Talk about a Renaissance Man!

Luke Burrage: International Juggler

March 31st, 2010 | Posted by Nathan

Imagine traveling to around 40 different countries in the span of one year. Now, imagine juggling in exotic locations within these counties and documenting it all on video. After all that, imagine finding the time to write and record an original song based on this experience and then using it to score the video which you have edited together. Got it? Well that’s exactly what Luke Burrage did with his travels from 2009 in this breathtaking video. Read more about his project here.

Monkey Manipulation

March 22nd, 2010 | Posted by Nathan

Monkeys are awesome.  Just seeing a monkey is enough to grab my attention.  Add juggling to the mix and it’s near impossible for me to look away.  This is probably why I can’t stop watching this Monkey Theatre video.  The act features monkey juggling and balancing.  As if that wasn’t enough, the monkeys get in on the action themselves by aiding the human talent with some ball and ring juggling and doing some baton twirling.  Monkeys!

Intercontinental juggler Robert Fowler sends word of this video.

Who cares about the juggling – that’s some nice hip gyrating going on there.

More of Gandini

November 17th, 2009 | Posted by JH

Yet another Gandini juggling video featuring lots and lots of rings. It might just be me but every time I watch a video of theirs, it makes me want to throw a lot of things up in the air – it doesn’t matter what as long as there are lots of them to be throwing.

Subscribe to their channel if you haven’t already. You won’t regret it.

p.s: Comments are now *REALLY* working.

Cool choreography and editing. The head catches at about 2:20 are particularly impressive.

Rare Circus Arts ~ Roue Cyr

October 18th, 2009 | Posted by Sam

There are a lot of things out there that you just don’t see anymore. Kids playing baseball instead of video games. Cheap gas. Carbureted internal combustion engines. And many many MANY circus arts that are slowly disappearing. Sure there are a lot of circus arts that are still around, and some very popular (cough cough juggling cough cough), but some are a little less common.
The Roue Cyr (say it ROO SEAR, yeah there you go.) is one of these arts thats somewhere in the middle. You may be wondering what a Roue Cyr is, and I can only really explain the basics of what it is. Just picture a large steel and aluminum hoop, bigger than an average sized human being, that can be manipulated in a variety of ways. Most commonly there is a performer who hangs inside or holds on and makes the hoop roll and spin in all directions. Just check out this video by David Poznanter showing his number with this very large and beautiful prop.

I had a chance before school started a few months ago to meet David and talk about his art.

Me: David, would you like to tell us about what got you started with the Roue Cyr and some of your career performing?

David: I first saw Daniel Cyr perform in it in 2002 in cirque eloize’s show,”excentricus”. I immediately wanted to learn. I got a Roue Cyr made a few years later while at a dance conservatory in Austria. I ended up getting 3 more made after that to find one the right size. I spent a lot of time alone in studios trying to learn it.

Me: Where has your performing taken you?

David: I’ve performed it in the U.S., Brazil, Switzerland, Austria, the Dominican Republic and Belgium.

Me: Sound pretty amazing, traveling the world, spinning in a hoop. What are your plans currently?

David: I’m currently on a 70 city tour with Cirque Dreams’ new show “Illumination” where I will be doing a Roue Cyr number, roller blading, unicycling, singing, and living on a bus.

Me: Well I wish you luck with your show. It was a pleasure talking to you about these things.

I highly recommend seeing David’s number live, it is simply amazing. For more information on Cirque Dreams, and where to see the show next, Click here

Does ASIMO Dream of Electric Unicycles?

September 27th, 2009 | Posted by JH

Honda_U3-x_12

This is way cooler than the Segway for ‘personal mobility’, as Honda puts it (we don’t know what it means either). The press have dubbed this an electric unicycle although it moves in all directions and not just back and forth. I’d have compared this to a moveable office chair but that’s just me.

Like the Segway, you move by adjusting your body weight – leaning in a direction makes it move with you. I can see this being a less space-consuming method of moving around than with an electric scooter but really, without handlebars, I doubt if many will want to try these on slopes. After all, we’ve heard the excuses people give for declining to try out unicycling haven’t we?

Color-Changing Juggling

September 3rd, 2009 | Posted by JH

One of my latest favorite tricks to do is to have my rings change colors in the midst of juggling. It’s really easy to pick up and it’s a surefire crowd-pleaser. I’m using Mr Babache dual-sided rings but these only come with white on the other side so these videos excite me quite a bit.

Luke Burrage teaches how to make your own dual-sided rings. I think what could be cool is if you used 3M’s Scotchlite material instead. I daresay they’d even look good as a substitute for lighted rings with a bit of spotlight bouncing off them.

Here’s a blast from the past – Michael Karas does 3 color changing while juggling 3 rings. Absolutely brilliant and I need to try this out someday. Right after I get some Scotchlite of course.
