Eric Bates — the best ever with boxes?

June 10th, 2009 | Posted by tony

If you’ve seen Kremo, Schweizer, Brown, Daymont, Ryuhan, and Wei, please comment as to whether this is the best box routine you’ve seen. With hesitation and utmost respect to the others, I say yes. Finesse and derring-do with a fresh approach.

Best Catches – Week of 14 Dec 08

December 22nd, 2008 | Posted by tony

Best Catches is a sifter for the unplugged, the lazy, and the busy. It’s a weekly roundup of the freshest juggling videos, forum topics, and blog posts – in short, it does a lot of work so you don’t have to.

:: In one of the big teases of the year, Jay Gilligan, Erik Åberg, Patrik Elmnert, and Wes Peden preview Team RdL: The RenegadedesignLab. Looks like cool new juggling and cool new props, with some sort of debut at the International Jugglers’ Association festival. People are talking. And if you’re listening, listen for the “4th Shape.”

:: Absolutely cool and fun, Bri Crabtree’s new video is a must-see (but maybe on mute, except for the final 10 seconds). Cool club manipulation and nice vistas. And Bri is keeping up with comments on the forum.

:: David Burlet is the Baseball Juggler who has come onto the web radar.

:: The New York Times: Guillaume Dufresnoy, the incoming artistic director of the Big Apple Circus, will answer selected readers’ questions about it as an institution, and about its community programs and its show under the big top.

:: Thomas Dietz is posting consistent videos with new tricks. He’s on number 3 already.

:: A cigar box manipulation video, Trix with Brix, stars Matthias and Christoph. Get beyond the literal use of red bricks in the beginning and there are some fresh moves in the JTV video. Strengths: branching out from the traditional box plane; attempts at two-person sharing; some pretty cinematography.

:: Alan Thompson starts off with a strong four-club shower sequence in his new video. Mostly 4c and 5c.
