:: The Wall Street Journal has an article about a show that Michael Moschen recently performed. Moschen seems to keep a low profile these days, so it is good to hear about him performing and getting press. The article is especially noteworthy for the inspirational quotes and the implication that he is working on new things.
:: Wes Peden posted two new trick trailers, one with clubs and one with balls, to promote his juggling film ‘Plaid‘.
:: Luke Burrage gets wild with some multiplexing and then goes bullet time with five clubs.

Since this is the first Best Catches of the year, I thought it would be a good idea to sort of recap the first part of 2010 with some of the more notable and interesting goings on in the world of juggling. From here on out, Best Catches will be posted every Friday, as a way to cap off the end of the week (though I might skip an update once in a while if it has been a slow week in juggling). So, without further ado, I bring you…The return of Best Catches!
:: Luke Burrage has announced the Top 40 Jugglers of 2009 as voted by youtube jugglers. Check it out!
:: Toby Walker started off 2010 with some Bad Habits. Although I must question just how bad a man’s habits actually are when he comes that close to flashing nine clubs.
:: The British Juggling Convention is fast approaching. It will be held April 7 – 11 in Huddersfield. More info.
:: The 63 IJA Festival will be held July 26 – August 1 in Sparks, Nevada. Special guest is Kris Kremo. In honor of the event, the IJA is having a Youtube Juggling Tutorial Competition. There are still a few days left, so what are you waiting for? Spread your vast juggling knowledge and enter to win cool prizes!
:: Registration for WJF 6 is now open. The event will be July 21-25 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Special guests include Pavel Evsukevich and Falco Sheffler.
:: Speaking of the WJF, the organization has just revised their convention rules, resulting in more relaxed event policies. Additionally, they have added a new performance-based competition called “the long program”. With these new changes, some jugglers have raised the question: Is the WJF the new IJA?
:: Do you like to Joggle? Then check out Gballz new Joggling Series beanbags.
:: Wes Peden has just unleashed his latest creation with the downloadable juggling film ‘Plaid‘.
:: It seems that Thom has spent the first part of the year trying to completely destroy gravity by executing crazy-hard single trick moves. Amazing!

Best Catches is a sifter for the unplugged, the lazy, and the busy. It’s a weekly roundup of the freshest juggling videos, forum topics, and blog posts – in short, it does a lot of work so you don’t have to.
:: Wes gets the top nod this week for “Counting Escalator Steps,” a Sakari-inspired (maybe?) mostly three-club video with some complex combinations and inspired body moving. Perhaps further off the radar is this video of Wes and Patrik Elmnert performing for the king and queen of Sweden in July.
:: There are so many editing styles I dislike in the final HOF “Juggler Hero,” that I’m almost deterred from recommending it. But the ball tricks included are unprecedented, so half-shield your eyes for Ori Roth and Bar Mualem.
:: “Das model,” a pole manipulation routine performed by Elena Shapoval (Ukraine) and directed by Taras Pozdnyakov is generating a lot of buzz at the forum. Other Pozdnyakov videos of note are here.
:: Ben Thompson juggles and balances like mad. Christof Buch, too. Whose tricks do you prefer?
:: Agency Franko has a slew of new videos up, perhaps most interestingly is a solid giant-triangles routine.
:: Gandini jugglers throw illuminated clubs.
:: CircusPrincess, an annual competition for female circus performers, is still accepting and posting routines. Nata Galkina’s anti-podist routine is now up, for example.
:: Does juggling cause back problems? I say yes. FORUM.

:: CircusPrincess is hosting its annual competition for female circus performers. The festival, annual since 2003, is accepting video submissions until Sept. 28. Already, at least four jugglers are among the competitors, including Audrey Decaillon, Frida Brinkmann, and Cate Flaherty. You get five votes and the popularity contest is already on. Thus far, Decaillon is the highlight for me, so watch her if you haven’t before..
:: Spencer Hearne is asking for comments on a 29-second club routine he posted. I’m newly acquainted with Spencer’s juggling and I really like the purpose he seems to bring to each throw. Not flawless, but hard to stop watching. Here’s a three-club routine. His profile.
:: Emman has a fun video up with cool bbb stuff and some solid five-ring juggling. Etc. Also, Emman’s favorites are worth keeping an eye on. To wit: this video (how only 56 views?).
:: Chris Hodge gives us a 5, 6, 7, 8-ball montage with backcrosses and pirouettes galore. Check out the mad series starting at 1:07.
:: Wes snippets (with an ode to Biljauer) and a brief one-shot bootleg.
:: Jay, too, posted a few snips of rhythmic juggling. Don’t miss his ultra-brief three-ball sequence.
:: Evsukevich juggles rings and some impressive mixed props.
:: David Ferman’s new video includes a five-club crotch throw flash.
Note: new tags are being worked into Best Catches posts for better topical archiving; by juggler’s name, etc.
